The festival of Shardiya Navratri is being celebrated from 15 October to 23 October 2023. Pitru Paksha is celebrated before Navratri. No auspicious work is done during the one-month-long Pitru Paksha. It is believed that all auspicious functions can be organized only at the beginning of Navratri. It is said that during the days of Navratri, Mother Durga comes to earth and stays with the devotees who welcome her for nine days.

Although all kinds of auspicious works are done during Navratri, marriages are not performed. With the blessings of the mother, you can do housewarming, mundane, special puja, finalizing a relationship, and start any new work but you cannot get tied in the bond of marriage. Why marriage is not done during Navratri?
On the occasion of Navratri, Mother Durga comes to reside at the devotee's house. During this time people fast and live a virtuous life. There is a religious reason for not marrying during Navratri.

To worship Navadurga, the devotee has to adopt mental and physical purity. The main purpose of marriage is to carry forward the lineage and give birth to children. However, according to religious beliefs, one should not have sexual intercourse with a woman during Navratri. For this reason, marriage is prohibited on the holy day of Navratri.

Do not do these things during Navratri
During the worship of Navdurga i.e. during Navratri, there is a ban on carrying out some activities other than marriage. According to Vishnu Purana, if a devotee has observed a fast during Navratri then he should not sleep during the day. It is believed that sleeping during the day does not yield the results of fasting.

Alcohol prohibited
The holy days of Navratri are considered very sacred. Many people fast during Navratri and eat simple food. However, even for those who do not fast, some things are prohibited. One should not consume intoxicating substances like alcohol, tobacco, etc. during Navratri.

Non-vegetarian food prohibited
Whether you are fasting during Navratri or not, there are some restrictions regarding eating habits. If you worship Goddess then try to consume satvik food during Navratri. Try not to use garlic and onion in your food. Consumption of meat is completely prohibited during Navratri.
