Medicine is known as a noble profession and doctors have been given the status of God in society. Doctors are also called the superheroes of our society, from the coronavirus epidemic to any kind of health crisis, doctors have stood as a shield for society. How healthy are the doctors who become saviors in the most difficult diseases, have you ever thought about this?
This question is important because generally, we do not see anything beyond our problems. But amidst all this, it is also important to keep in mind that if the doctors themselves are not healthy, then under what circumstances are they treating us? National Doctors Day 2024 is celebrated every year on July 1
to express gratitude to the doctors who play an unprecedented role in contributing to a healthy society and nation-building and honoring them for their dedication and selfless service. On this special occasion, it is important to know under what circumstances our doctors are treating us.
Be sensitive towards doctors
In a conversation with Amar Ujala, Dr. Wasim Gauhari (Diabetologist) says, it is important to tell the public about the challenges faced by doctors, appreciate their tireless efforts, and ensure better resources and favorable working conditions. There are great visionary leaders to promote the health sector in India, whose pioneering efforts have improved the medical system, and its access to people and care across the country.
However, amidst all this, there is a need to stop the frequent incidents of assault and abuse with doctors, give them space for their personal lives, and be sensitive towards the physical and mental health of doctors. Doctors are struggling with mental health problems.
In a survey conducted by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) in the year 2023, it has been told that a large section of doctors in the country a victims of mental diseases due to fear of attacks and criminal cases, lack of sleep, stress, social environment, conservatism. According to the survey report, 82.7% of doctors in the country feel stressed in their profession.
In this survey conducted on 1,681 doctors from different departments across the country, 46.3% of the doctors said that fear of violence was the main reason for stress, while 13.7% said that there was a possibility of criminal prosecution against them. Doctors who advise their patients to get 6-8 hours of sleep every night are themselves not able to get enough sleep due to many reasons.
Doctors are not God
Senior psychiatrist Dr. Satyakant says many things need to be changed, like on one hand we consider doctors as God, and on the other hand we want 'return on investment'. It means that if you have gone to an expensive hospital for treatment then it is already assumed that if we are spending more money then the patient should be cured. But can this happen? Is more money a guarantee of saving life?
Doctors are also soft targets, sometimes a doctor is beaten up, some are threatened, and some are forced to commit suicide. Do we do this to the contractor even after considering him responsible for the accident caused by to broken road? -No. Doctors also have to understand that they also have a limit, they are not Brahma, who can change destiny. By the way, even Brahmadev was not the one who could change destiny, he would just find a solution.
