India's first Miss World
The first woman to win the Miss World title was Rita Faria. Rita was born on 23 August 1943 in Matunga, Mumbai. She studied medicine at Grant Medical College and Sir JJ Group of Hospitals in Mumbai. For further studies, she studied medicine at Kings College Hospital in London.

Studied from Medical College, Mumbai
During her medical studies in Mumbai, Rita's friends advised her to participate in a beauty show. Rita participated in the Miss Bombay competition organized by Eve's Weekly Magazine and took this competition as a challenge.

Won the title of Miss World with borrowed clothes
After becoming Miss Bombay, she also won the Miss India competition. She got a chance to represent India in Miss World. However, at that time she neither had a passport to participate in the competition nor clothes and makeup items for the competition.

Rita borrowed swimsuits and saris from her friends and left for London. Rita, who was studying medicine in India, not only participated in Miss World without any training but also won the title of Miss World.
