Good mental health is important to keep your physical health fine. If problems like stress depression are not diagnosed or treated on time, then the risk of many diseases also increases.

World Mental Health Day is celebrated every year on 10 October to educate and make people aware of mental health and to remove the feeling of social stigma. Let us know how mental and physical health are related to each other and how mental health problems affect physical health.

What do doctors say?

In a conversation with Amar Ujala, Intensive Care Doctor Nirmal Singh says it is very important to take care of mental health to keep the body healthy and reduce the risk of many types of chronic diseases. A study has found that positive psychological health can reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke. On the other hand, people who have stress anxiety or any other type of problem may have an increased risk of asthma, heart diseases including neurological diseases.

Sleep starts getting affected.

About 50% to 80% of people with mental health conditions start having sleep problems. However, only 10% to 18% of the general population experience sleep problems. Sleeplessness or lack of sleep is considered to be the main cause of many types of diseases. Sleep disorders increase the risk of serious medical conditions such as heart disease, stroke, and diabetes.

Apart from this, there is also a risk of weight gain due to lack of sleep, which is considered to be the main cause of diabetes and heart problems.

Risk of chronic diseases
Studies have found that people suffering from mental health disorders are at higher risk of chronic diseases such as diabetes, asthma, cancer, and heart disease. Studies show that people suffering from depression may be at risk of heart disease, or stroke. Hormonal changes in mental health problems have been seen to hurt overall health.

Also a reason for increasing heart diseases
Cases of heart disease and heart attack are increasing rapidly globally, and poor mental health conditions are also considered to be a reason for this. Studies show that mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression can increase the risk of heart disease. Similarly, problems related to heart diseases have also been seen in people feeling lonely or living in social isolation.
