Khichdi is such a dish that everyone from adults to children are shocked to see it. One thing is stuck in the mind that only sick people eat Khichdi but it is not so. Khichdi is a dish that is loved by people since the Mughal period.
Mughal emperor Akbar and his son Jahangir were very fond of Khichdi. This thing is also mentioned in many books. Whenever he went out somewhere and did not feel like eating anything heavy, he preferred to eat Khichdi. Many types of dry fruits were added to his khichdi along with pulses and rice.
Now when the condition of people is bad in summer and the temperature is going near 45 degrees, then in this season Khichdi is such a dish that you can eat to keep your health healthy. You can easily make Masala Khichdi at home and feed it to your family members. In today's article, we will tell you an easy way to make Masala Khichdi. Pair this khichdi with papad, pickle and curd, which will enhance its taste even more.
Material
1 cup rice
1/2 cup moong dal (washed)
1 large onion
1 big tomato
1 small potato
1/2 cup peas
2-3 green chillies
1 inch ginger
4-5 garlic cloves
Fresh coriander (for garnishing)
2 tbsp ghee or oil
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp coriander powder
1 tsp garam masala
1/2 tsp red chilli powder
1/2 tsp cumin powder
Salt as per taste
4-5 cups water
Method
To make Khichdi, first wash the rice and moong dal thoroughly and soak it in water for 15-20 minutes. Meanwhile, wash and cut all the vegetables. Now heat ghee or oil in a pressure cooker. Add cumin seeds and when it starts crackling, add chopped green chillies, ginger and garlic. Fry them for a few seconds.
After this add onion and fry until it turns golden brown. Then add tomatoes and cook until they become soft. Now add turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chilli powder and salt.
Mix the spices well and cook for 1-2 minutes. Add chopped vegetables and fry for 2-3 minutes. Now finally filter the soaked rice and pulses and add them to the cooker and mix well. Add 4-5 cups of water and mix. Now add salt as per taste and then close the lid of the pressure cooker. Cook for 3-4 whistles on medium flame, Khichdi is ready.
