Litchi is always sold with its stem. This is because breaking the stem tends to spoil it. When you buy litchi, avoid breaking its stalk. Instead, wash and dry the litchi and keep it in the open without breaking the stem. In this way, litchi will remain fresh for more days comfortably.
1. Do not allow dampness
Another major reason for the spoilage of litchi is the remaining moisture in it. Litchi has a lot of juice which keeps on leaking. Due to this also it can get spoiled. Whenever you bring litchi, do not leave it wet. First, wash them and spread them separately on a piece of paper. When litchi dries, wrap it on paper and keep it.
2. Remove bad litchi
If a litchi is slightly overripe then it is possible that it can spoil the rest of the litchi too quickly. Remove overripe litchi from a good bunch and keep it. If you see that litchi is ripening quickly, then eat it within 2-3 days. Keep the rest of the litchis separately from the rest of the vegetables in the refrigerator. Keep in mind that litchi should not be kept among vegetables that release ethylene gas.
3. Don't leave Litchi in foil
After bringing the litchi, take it out of the foil and keep it separately. Litchi in a plastic bag or foil heats up quickly and starts rotting within a day. In this case, take it out of the plastic bag and keep it in a cool place. By doing this litchi will remain fresh for about two to three days.
4. How to buy Litchi
It is said that litchi should be eaten after the first rain of the season. Then its taste is also good and the rain also reduces the acid of litchi. In such a situation, you can also buy good litchis, which are not at risk of rotting in time.
Apart from this, whenever you buy litchi, check it thoroughly. Sellers of vegetables and fruits sell bad litchi by hiding them in bunches of good litchi, so keep an eye on every grain. If you see any rotten litchi, ask them to remove it immediately or replace the bunch.
