That too because they wanted to cure it by drinking beer. They used to think that drinking beer would melt the stones. However, there is no scientifically proven relation between drinking beer and the melting of stones.
What do doctors say?
Doctors say that there is no such scientific data, which confirms that drinking beer can cure kidney stones. Beer is a diuretic. It helps in bringing more urine. Apart from this, it can also help in taking out small stones. But beer cannot remove stones of more than 5 mm in size from the body. This is because the exit passage itself is around 3 mm.
According to doctors, drinking beer when there is stone pain can worsen the situation. Because beer will work to bring more urine and many times unbearable pain starts during urination. Long-term or regular beer drinking can lead to high oxalate and dehydration.
Kidney stone cases on the rise
There is no exact number or data available regarding kidney-related diseases. However, according to Lybrate, the year 2022 saw an increase of 180 per cent in kidney-related diseases, most of which were kidney stones. Doctors say that the most common risk factors for kidney stones are diabetes and high blood pressure, which most people are not aware of. Apart from this, the food is eaten, obesity or being overweight, different medical conditions, and some supplements and medicines can also cause kidney stones.
