Faridabad: The Faridabad Police on Thursday arrested two members of a gang for allegedly running a fake call center in Delhi and duping over 1,700 people across the country on the pretext of offering 'work from home. is arrested. Faridabad Police said that 14 phones, 13 SIM cards, and Rs 64,000 in cash have been recovered from the possession of the accused.
The accused have been identified as Prabhat and Om Prakash, both residents of Bihar. Faridabad Police said that two other members of the gang are absconding. A preliminary investigation found that the mastermind of the gang, Prabhat, was running a fake call center in the Rohini area and the accused had duped 1,784 people across the country.
Case registered after a complaint
Faridabad police spokesperson Ube Singh said the accused used to post advertisements on social media claiming to offer high salaries and 'work from home opportunities. So that people come in greedy and contact them. He used to conduct mock interviews and conduct the recruitment process. The accused then used to take money from the prospective job seekers for various charges like an interview, registration, GST, training, courier charges, and insurance and later switched off their phones after taking the money.
The Faridabad Police started the investigation based on a complaint by a resident of Faridabad. It was alleged that he has duped Rs 1.27 lakh using a similar modus operandi. An investigation team has been formed under the leadership of Inspector Basant, in charge of Cyber Police Station, Faridabad.
