International Day of Light is celebrated every year on 16th May, its purpose is to create awareness about the science of light, light-based technology, and its applications. It is said that our life is incomplete without light. When it is dark in the evening, we provide light with the help of electric lights or candles. In countries like Norway and Sweden, where there is no sunlight for several months, people often become victims of depression. Let us know why light is important to maintain our good health.
Effect of light on health
1. sleep
In the current hectic pace of life, getting 7 to 8 hours of restful sleep at night can be a challenging task. If you spend your evening in dim light or use a mobile while sleeping, then it has a very bad effect on sleep. Therefore, for a healthy sleep routine, expose yourself to natural sunlight during the day and do not use your mobile at bedtime.
2. Eyesight
Many people face difficulty in seeing things at night. There may be electric lights installed in your room which harm the eyes. Apart from this, the blue light emitted from TV, computer, laptop, and mobile is not good for eyesight. This may cause eye strain and headaches. If natural sunlight does not fall directly on the eyes then it is good for eye health.
3. Mental Health
If you do not go out at all in natural sunlight during the day, then you may be deficient in Vitamin D. Deficiency of this nutrient can spoil your mood, apart from this it can cause bone weakness and heart disease. If you want to maintain good mental health, then go out in the sun for a while now and then.
