You will be surprised to know that after many incidents of theft, Indian Railways used such a technique, in which the fans work only till they are engaged in the train. If you try to take them out and run them at home, they will not work.
Railway uses this technique
The electricity used in homes is of two types. The first is direct current ie DC and its maximum power is 5, 12, or 24. Whereas the second is Alternate Current ie AC and its maximum power are 220 volts.
Whereas, the fans installed in the trains run on 110 DC. In such a situation, if you steal these fans from the train and try to run them at home, they will not work.
Don't commit theft on a train
Do not steal in an Indian train even by mistake, as stealing railway property is a punishable offense. A case can be registered against you under section 380 of IPC. At the same time, if found guilty, you can be jailed for 7 years and can also be fined.
