Indian Navy's proposal on the second indigenous aircraft carrier has been approved by the Defense Procurement Board. Let us tell you that we are ready to consider the Indian Navy's proposal to build a second aircraft carrier at a cost of approximately Rs 40 thousand crores. This decision was taken at a time when China's increasingly expansionist policy has become aggressive in the Indian Ocean region.
Final seal left, discussion will take place in DAC
According to official sources, the Defense Procurement Board (DPB) has given in-principle approval to this proposal. This aircraft carrier will be known as IAC II. It is being told that the purchase proposal will soon be placed before the Defense Acquisition Council. If sources are to be believed, the DAC meeting chaired by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh may soon be held on Thursday. There is a possibility of discussion on this proposal during this period.
The proposal will be discussed in the DAC meeting
Apart from this, the Defense Acquisition Council (DAC) may also consider the Indian Air Force's proposal for additional purchase of 97 Tejas Mark 1A aircraft. At the same time, emphasis is being laid on IAC-II proposed by the Navy. Let us tell you that the country's first indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant was handed over to the Navy by PM Modi in the month of September. Built at a cost of approximately Rs 23 thousand crore, this aircraft carrier has a specialized air defense network and anti-ship missile system.
According to the plan, the second aircraft carrier will be built at the state-run Cochin Shipyard. If sources are to be believed, the Navy is continuously demanding three aircraft carriers. According to the Navy, in the last few years, external influence has been suddenly increasing in the Indian Ocean region, due to which the Navy is strengthening itself. Currently, India has two aircraft carriers, INS Vikramaditya and INS Vikrant.
The Defense Ministry has signed a contract with BHEL, Haridwar for the procurement of 16 upgraded Super Rapid Gun Mounts and related equipment for the Indian Navy. Whose total cost is Rs 2956.89 crore.
