In India, the sun is so strong that if you go out even for a short while, there can be a problem of tanning. Not only this, but it is also very easy to get sunburned here and this causes a lot of problems. When you are sun-tanned, you might feel like trying many things. Surely, once you Google, you will come to know that there are so many home remedies suggested for tanning.

Many claims are made about home remedies that will help your skin become one-tone fairer, but half of them do not work. But how to find out which solution is working and which solution is not working?

DrJayshree Sharad, FAAD Board Certified Dermatologist and founder of Skin 'Infinity by Jayshree' and author of many books has shared information related to this on Instagram. He has told about two popular home remedies which never work. Along with this, some home remedies have also been shared which can be used in case of tanning.

Home Remedies That Don't Work for Sun Tanning

If you are troubled by the problem of sun tanning and you apply any kind of acidic ingredient on the skin, then it can cause a reaction on the skin. According to DrJayshree, you should not try any home remedy which contains such ingredients...

  • Tomato juice
  • Lemon juice
  • Potato juice
  • Glycerine
  • Baking soda

Or any ingredient that may irritate.

Why do these ingredients harm the skin?

Whenever we come from outside, the UV rays of the sun have more effect on our skin. Even if you have done a beach holiday, go trekking or have been somewhere in the sun for a long time. In such a situation, your skin may become swollen and irritated. At such a time, if you immediately apply something acidic to the skin, there will be a reaction in your skin. Even if the sunburn is not visible, your skin needs relaxing ingredients. In such a situation, if you apply any acidic ingredient, the skin will get worse. At such times your skin care will not be done properly.

Not only this, applying acidic ingredients on the skin can cause more sunburn and it is possible that rashes, red spots, and dryness may start appearing on the skin and suntan may become more visible. Any kind of acidic ingredient spoils the pH level of your skin and in such a situation the skin starts becoming excessively dry. Sometimes this can cause permanent spots on the skin. Therefore you have to stay away from any such home remedy.

What kind of remedies should be tried for sun tan?

If you are facing a problem with tanning, then it would be best that you contact a dermatologist and if this is not possible, then try such home remedies which can cool the skin. Keep in mind that does not make the mistake of applying ice at this time. The effect of ice is hot and it will make the skin more dry and dull. Also, applying ice on the skin is not good for inflammation (swelling, burning and rashes).

According to Dr. Jayshree, this home remedy will prove to be the best.

  • You have to use cream or curd on the skin. It should be cool and if your skin is sensitive then mix it with a little water and apply. That means you have to dilute it also.
  • Whether you apply curd or cream, you do not have to add any other ingredient to it.
  • You can apply it on the face, neck, hands, and feet.
  • If your skin is oily, do not apply it. It also does not suit acne-prone skin.
  • You have to apply it for a few minutes and clean your skin with cold water.
  • Keep in mind that this is only for those with normal and dry skin. For acne-prone skin, it would be better to contact a dermatologist and get the right treatment.
  • According to DrJayshree, it would not be right to try any other home remedy. You need to pay a little attention.
