The scorching heat and heatwave continue across the country including the capital Delhi, Uttar Pradesh-Bihar these days. In many states, the day temperature has reached 45 degrees, which can have many serious health-related side effects. Uttar Pradesh is reeling under severe heat these days, with at least 54 people dying due to heat stroke in the last 72 hours at the Ballia district hospital. According to health officials, more than 400 people are currently admitted to the district hospital and most of those admitted are in the age group of 60 years and above. This is the situation in most of the states.
Doctors say the rising temperatures can have many short-term and long-term health side effects. It is also problematic for the heart, brain, kidneys, and muscles, with risks of heat stroke. With the mercury increasing day by day, the danger to the body is increasing, all people need to be very careful and vigilant at this time.
Heat can have side effects on the organs
We spoke to Dr. Bhartendu Narayan, Intensive Care Expert in Lucknow, to know about the ill effects of heatstroke and ways to prevent it. He says that the way the heat wave continues these days, it can be considered to have fatal side effects. This is a very challenging time especially for children and the elderly, even a little carelessness can lead to serious problems.
Our body is not able to tolerate temperature up to 45 degrees, so if not prevented, it can have side effects on many organs including heat stroke.
The problem of oliguria is being seen
Dr. Bhartendu says, these days most of the people who are getting admitted to the hospital due to side effects of heat are suffering from oliguria, a condition in which the kidneys are not able to produce enough urine due to dehydration. Since most of the amount of water we drink comes out of the body in the form of sweat, less water is available in the kidneys.
This is the reason why we feel less frequent urination during summer, this is a harmful condition for kidney health.
Heat stroke can be fatal
Dr. Bhartendu says the way the daytime temperature is increasing now, even a slight negligence can cause heat stroke. Heatstroke is a condition in which your body becomes too hot and the body cannot regulate its temperature normally.
This problem usually occurs due to prolonged sun exposure or high temperature. In heatstroke, the body temperature can be 104 F or higher. One of the major causes of death due to heat is heat stroke and it is not treated on time.
How to avoid heat stroke and other heat problems?
Dr. Bhartendu explains it is important for all of us these days to avoid direct exposure to heat and sunlight as much as possible. For this, it is necessary to pay maximum attention to two things.
First- Keep drinking more and more water, it is very important to keep the body cool.
Second- Do not go in the sun at all, especially avoid getting out of the house from 11 pm to 3 pm.
Apart from this, wear light-colored, loose clothes to protect the body from the ill effects of heat. Keep in mind that the side effects of heat become more when there is a lack of water in our bodies. Keeping your stomach full of water is the best way to avoid the ill effects of heat.
