Globally, the problem of hearing loss or deafness is increasing among the youth. According to a Harvard Health report, between 2010 and 2020 in the US, the problem of hearing loss among people aged 20-30 increased by 15.78 percent. Expressing concern, health experts have said that this is a matter of global concern because this problem is not limited to America only, the situation is similar in most of the countries of the world.
Harvard experts say as we are getting connected to technology, its side effects are also coming to the fore. Excessive use of headphones is believed to be the main reason for the increasing ear problems among the youth. Loud noises and vibrations from headphones can damage the eardrum, leading to a greater risk of hearing loss, tinnitus, or, in severe cases, even deafness.
Cells can be damaged due to loud noise
Health experts say the inner ear is very sensitive to sound. The ear contains thousands of cells, some of which have tiny hair-like structures called hair cells that conduct sound from the ear to the brain. Loud headphones can cause permanent damage to these cells, disrupting the mechanism of sound transmission.
Since our eardrum can tolerate sounds of only a limited intensity, there is a risk of damage to the ears due to the use of headphones at high volume or for too long.
Curtains can burst due to loud noise
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has set parameters to reduce noise exposure and prevent ear problems. Exposure to sound levels greater than 85 decibels for more than about two hours can cause serious damage to the ears. Whereas even five minutes of exposure to the sound of 105 to 110 dB can cause damage to the ear.
Health experts say that there is a risk of rupturing the eardrum or serious damage to the cells in excessive noise, it should be avoided.
What should be the volume of the headphones?
Experts say that the sound level of headphones-earpods should be kept between 60 to 70 decibels to prevent damage to the ears. Apart from this, it is also important that you do not keep the headphones on for a long time, due to which the air circulation in the ear starts getting obstructed, which can lead to the risk of infection.
The cleanliness of earphones in which rubber is set inside the ears should also be taken care of. Rubber can cause internal ear infections.
Keep these things in mind
Too much noise can damage our ears. To keep the ears healthy, reduce the risk of any type of infection and prevent deafness, all people should take special care of some things.
Keep in mind that you should not use headphones for a long time and the sound should not be loud.
Wear earplugs if you are going to attend an event where there is a possibility of loud noises for a long period.
Take care of the cleanliness of the ears as well.
For some time, if there is a problem of pain in the ears, tingling, ringing in the ears, or loss of hearing, then immediately consult a specialist.
