Insomnia, tossing and turning throughout the night...if you are also struggling with this problem, then you may be a victim of insomnia. And the surprising thing is that according to a new study, women are 60%more likely to suffer from insomnia than men. This means that the problem of insomnia is more common in women.
The team of researchers is associated with Harvard, Stanford, and Southampton University. In this research, it was found that the quality of sleep of women is much worse than that of men. According to researchers, the reason for this is women's internal clock, which runs about six minutes faster than men's. Over time, this difference becomes out of sync with the environment, leading to a breakdown in communication between the brain and body and resulting in sleep loss.
It is important to take care of the biological clock.
The results of the study have been published in the journal 'Sleep Medicine Reviews'. Researchers say that it is very important to keep a person's biological clock in mind while treating diseases related to metabolism, problems related to sleep, and biological rhythm.
Sleep also worsens during periods.
The team of researchers also reviewed previous studies, which found that women often describe their sleep quality as poor. Also, with the change in menstrual cycle (menstrual cycle or periods), their sleep quality fluctuates. The study has also revealed that 53 percent of women have anxiety at night during periods, due to which they lose sleep at night or do not sleep due to fear of pain or leakage.
Connection of insomnia with depression:
Poor sleep quality is also said to be linked to depression and anxiety. Both these mental illnesses are found twice as common in women as in men. However, it is still not clear why insomnia occurs more in women. Research has found that women are more likely to have restless leg syndrome (RLS). This is a disease related to the nervous system, in which there is a feeling of crawling in the legs at night and a constant desire to move the legs. This situation creates a lot of difficulty in sleeping.
The problem of breathing disorders is more prevalent in men.
On the other hand, according to research, the risk of obstructive sleep apnea in men is three times higher than that of women. Obstructive sleep apnea is a sleep disorder in which breathing is repeatedly interrupted while sleeping. The level and speed of release of the hormone melatonin in the body also affect sleep.
