Heart attack is a word which makes the heart tremble as soon as it is heard. This is a fatal disease which can happen to anyone anytime, anywhere. But do you know that now a blood test can tell 6 months in advance whether you are at risk of a heart attack or not? Yes, scientists have developed a technology that can predict the possibility of heart attack by detecting certain molecules present in the blood.
Researchers at Uppsala University in Sweden have conducted a new study according to which future heart attacks can be detected by the amount of certain proteins in the blood. This test can indicate a possible heart attack about 6 months in advance.
How was the study done?
The study examined blood samples of 169,053 people who had never had heart disease before. Of these, 420 people had their first heart attack in the next 6 months. Researchers compared the blood of these people with the blood of 1598 healthy people. In the test, 91 such molecules were found in the blood which can be considered a sign of heart attack.
Need for more research on molecules:
Dr. Johan Sundstrom, the lead author of the study, says that more research is needed on these molecules. However, the good news is that at present the risk of heart attack can be detected through tests already available to doctors. One of these tests measures the amount of brain natriuretic peptide (BNP). This protein is made by heart cells under conditions of high pressure.
An online tool is also being developed.
Researchers are also developing an online tool with the help of which any person can find out the possibility of a heart attack in the next 6 months by giving information like good and bad cholesterol, waist thickness, height etc. Is. However, Dr. Jane Morgan says that this study is still in its initial stages and more research is needed. This test is currently designed for researchers and doctors.
