How To Enhance Lung Health: Lung is a very important organ of our body that plays an important role in delivering oxygen to our blood and also removes carbon dioxide from the body. If you want to be healthy then you will have to take care of the health of your lungs. Regarding this, we talked to Dr. Ashok K Rajput, Senior Pulmonologist of CK Birla Hospital, Delhi, he told us how we can improve the health of our lungs.
How will lung health improve?
1. Do exercise
Regular physical activity is not only beneficial for cardiovascular health, it also plays an important role in increasing lung function. Doing aerobic exercises like walking, swimming, and cycling helps in increasing lung capacity and improves the efficiency of oxygen uptake.
2. Improve indoor air quality
Indoor air quality can have a good or bad effect on lung health. Always ensure that your living and working spaces are well-ventilated and pollutant-free. Common indoor air pollutants, such as tobacco smoke, mold, dust particles, and volatile organic compounds, can irritate the respiratory system and aggravate conditions like asthma. Using air purifiers and avoiding smoking indoors are essential steps to protect the health of your lungs.
3. Keep drinking water.
It is very important to stay hydrated to maintain the thin layer of mucus present in the respiratory tract. This layer helps trap airborne particles and prevents infection. When you are well hydrated, your body can effectively produce and maintain this protective mucus layer. Therefore, drink 8 to 10 glasses of water a day.
4. Take a lung-friendly diet:
A balanced diet rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals is essential for lung health. Foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins provide essential nutrients that help reduce inflammation and oxidative stress in the lungs. Omega-3 fatty acids found in salmon and flax seeds have anti-inflammatory properties that improve lung health.
5. Maintain a healthy weight:
Being overweight or underweight can hurt the health of the lungs. Excess weight can compress the lungs and make breathing more challenging, while being underweight can cause the respiratory muscles to stretch, reducing their strength.
Take care of these things also:
According to Dr. Ashok K Rajput, to improve the health of the lungs, we have to take care of some other things like doing deep breathing exercises, quitting smoking, getting vaccinated, getting regular checkups done, Avoiding pollution, and contacting a good pulmonologist if necessary.
