Diabetes and heart disease are at the top of the diseases due to which the pressure on the health sector is increasing every year across the world. On Tuesday (November 26), the World Health Organization (WHO) expressed concern about diabetes and deaths caused by it in a report. The health organization said, more than 482,000 deaths are occurring every year due to diabetes in South East Asia, including India. Although the countries of the South East Asia region have done better work towards managing diabetes, however, better steps are still needed to promote the prevention and control of this disease.
Addressing the two-day program organized on diabetes and its risks, WHO South-East Asia Regional Director Saima Wazed said, it is very important to ensure timely access to treatment to patients to prevent complications caused by diabetes. The increasing risks of this serious disease can be prevented by making the diagnosis and treatment of diabetes comprehensive, accessible, and affordable.
Experts said this disease is now being seen in people of all ages, so it is important for everyone to be careful and keep trying to prevent it.
Diseases are an increasing concern
The World Health Organization said that by June this year, more than 60 million people have been put on protocol-based management for diabetes and hypertension. It is expected to reach 100 million by the year 2025. Apart from this, cases of type-1 diabetes are also increasing rapidly. More than 2.60 lakh children and adolescents suffering from this are facing many problems related to treatment and diagnosis.
The health sector is also seeing more pressure due to type-2 diabetes among young people in this region, which is a matter of serious concern.
More than half the people do not get treatment.
WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that out of 800 million (80 crore) people suffering from diabetes, more than half of them do not get treatment. Diabetes can happen to a person of any age, but if lifestyle changes are made and timely treatment is done, then its risks can be controlled. People who have someone in their family already suffering from diabetes should be more careful about this disease.
How to prevent it?
Health experts say that the risk of diabetes can be avoided by making some changes in lifestyle and improving diet. For this, consume a balanced diet like whole grains, lean protein, healthy fats, and plenty of vegetables. To keep blood sugar levels under control, carbohydrates, and high-sugar foods should be avoided.
Along with improving diet, it is also important to exercise regularly and keep paying attention to treatment methods.
