The Indian government is once again testing an emergency alert system to inform smartphone users about serious situations, including natural disasters.

On October 10 (Tuesday), many users received a flash message with a distinct beep, saying, "This is an 'Emergency Alert Message', please ignore it." The purpose of this test message, sent by the Department of Telecommunications in partnership with the National Disaster Management Authority, is to evaluate the emergency alert system.

Earlier on September 15, many Android phone users had received a flash message saying 'Emergency alert: severe'. When the message was received, a loud beeping sound came on the phone.

The purpose of this system is to inform individuals during critical events such as earthquakes, tsunamis, and flash floods. Android users can customize their alert settings in the device's Settings menu, giving them more control over information during critical moments.
