  • Do not fast in the first trimester: Pregnant women should avoid fasting in the first trimester i.e. the first three months of pregnancy. Because during this time the fetus develops the fastest and many physical changes take place.
  • Do not observe Nirjala Vrat: Pregnant women should not observe Nirjala Vrat. Because it is very important to keep the body hydrated during this period.
  • Consume liquids: You can consume liquids like coconut water, juice, milk etc. There is no harm in this.
  • Do not consume these things: You can drink fruit juice etc. during pregnancy. But avoid taking solid food or drinking tea-coffee.
  • Avoid these things: On Hartalika Teej, there is a tradition of staying awake all night, sitting for hours and singing Bhajans and Kirtans. But pregnant women should avoid this.
  • Do not swing: In many places, married women also swing on the occasion of Hartalika Teej. But pregnant women should not do this.
  • When not to keep a fast: If there are some complications or problems during pregnancy, then you should keep a fast. Doing this can harm the baby growing in the womb.
  • What to do if you have to give up the fast: If you have to give up the fast during pregnancy, then offer some dakshina in a betel leaf to a priest (Pandit ji). Also, do puja-paath in front of God and pray with folded hands.
