Hair care is extremely important during summers as hot weather leads to excessive sweating and an oily scalp can lead to dandruff, itchiness and hair fall. Also, to beat the heat, the intake of cold drinks and sugary foods increases during this season, which leads to more hair fall?
But you need not worry as here are some Ayurvedic hair-care tips that can save you from hair fall in summer. The information about these tips has been shared by Ayurvedic expert Dr DeekshaBhavsar with the fans through Instagram.
1. Cooling Hair Oil
Hair oiling is one of the ancient and important hair care routines as per Ayurveda. You can use hair oil made from cool herbs like hibiscus, amla, curry leaves, coconut, Brahmi etc.
Ingredient required-
- Coconut oil - 2 cups
- Sesame oil - 1/2 cup
- Castor oil - 1/2 cup
- curry leaves - a handful
- Neem leaves - 10
- Amla - 5 (or 5 tbsp amla powder)
- Fenugreek seeds - 1 tbsp
- Hibiscus flowers - 3-4
- Hibiscus leaves - a handful
- Brahmi powder - 3 tbsp
Method to prepare and apply-
- Mix all the ingredients and boil till the mixture thickens.
- Switch off the flame.
- Let it cool down a bit.
- Then filter it and put it in a glass container.
- Apply oil once or twice a week to nourish the hair.
- Massage at night and wash hair the next morning or apply oil to your hair 2 hours before hair wash.
2. Eat Amla daily
If you are troubled by hair fall, then take half a teaspoon of amla powder. To keep hair healthy, Amla can also be taken in the form of candy or syrup.
Consuming amla regularly provides relief from most hair problems. Amla is the best tonic for hair. It prevents premature greying of hair and dandruff, strengthens hair follicles and increases blood circulation in the scalp, which improves hair growth.
Apart from this, the application of amla mixed with brahmi, bhringraj and curry leaves stops hair fall and greying of hair.
3. Aloe vera gel
Apply aloe vera gel to hair 30 minutes before hair wash. It helps to soften your hair naturally and treats hair fall. Yes, Aloe vera deeply cleanses the hair and scalp. It does not contain any harmful chemicals, so it strengthens the hair by giving it nutrients.
4. Hibiscus tea
Being cooling in nature, drink this tea daily and nourish your hair. Hibiscus tea is a wonderful drink that gives you a lot of benefits. It is especially beneficial for hair as it gives the best results in preventing hair fall and grey hair. You can make hibiscus tea at home with fresh hibiscus flowers.
Hibiscus Tea Recipe
- Add 1 tablespoon of dried hibiscus flowers to 1 cup of water.
- Filter it and consume it.
5. Rice Water
Apply rice water to the hair for 20 minutes and then wash the hair with water. Rice water contains elements like inositol and carbohydrates, which heal dry and lifeless hair. Apart from this, rice water also contains amino acids, which strengthen the hair roots and make them thick and shiny.
6. Natural Hair-Mask
Apply a hair mask made of herbs like buttermilk, amla, hibiscus, neem, aloe vera etc. once a week.
7. Yoga and Pranayama
Pranayama like Anulom-Vilom, Bhramari, Sheetli, and Shitkari help in reducing excess Pitta from the body which reduces grey hair. Apart from this, it also balances your doshas and reduces the craving for cold drinks during the summer.
8. Nasya
Incorporate Nasya into your night routine. Put 2 drops of cow's ghee in both nostrils while sleeping at night.
9. Ghee massage on feet at night
Massage the soles of the feet with cow's ghee or coconut oil while sleeping at night.
Caution
- Avoid using hair spray and other chemical-rich hair products
- Do not use hot water to wash your hair.
- Don't eat too much junk food (fried, spicy, sour food).
