Cancer is one of the most deadly growing problems globally, causing millions of deaths every year. Researchers say that the death rate due to cancer can be reduced if the problem is properly diagnosed and treated in time. If many types of cancer are detected in the early stages, then the patient's life can be saved. For this, you must recognize the symptoms and get them checked in time.
Scientists have achieved great success in this direction. Based on the report published in Lancet Oncology Journal, researchers have told about such a blood test, with the help of which 50 types of cancer can be diagnosed. This discovery is being seen as a major success in the direction of timely diagnosis of cancer. Its better results have also been seen in the initial stages.
Gallery blood test
Scientists have named this blood test - Gallary Test. In England and Wales, this blood test was tested on people who had symptoms of cancer. In about 5,000 such people, cancer has been correctly identified through this test in two out of every three.
Scientists hope that through this test, cancer risks can be easily diagnosed in the coming times, which will help reduce the burden of mortality due to cancer.
How does this testing work?
The team of scientists told that through the gallery test, an attempt is made to understand the different changes in the bits of the patient's genetic code. These bits leak out from various types of cancer. Researchers at Oxford University say that this testing is still being worked on, our effort is to easily detect many types of cancer simultaneously with the help of this same blood test.
The Gallerie test, developed by the California-based company Graal, is also being used in people without symptoms in an attempt to understand whether this test can also detect hidden cancer.
What did the study find?
More than 350 people in the study were diagnosed with cancer after this test, even using conventional methods like scans and biopsies. The researchers found that 75 percent of people who were diagnosed with cancer through the Gallary blood test also had cancer confirmed through the conventional test. However, the Gallary test confirmed negative cancer cases in about 2.5% of people with cancer confirmed through conventional tests.
Based on the findings, the researchers found that this blood test can detect the disease with 85 percent accuracy.
What do researchers say?
Mark Middleton, the chief researcher of the Gallary Blood Test, told media reports that cancer is still a serious and complex problem. Many times it is not immediately clear which tests a patient needs. With the help of this blood test, we can easily identify the signs of many types of cancer.
Dr. David Crosby, from Cancer Research UK, says the study findings suggest the use of this test could help in making clinical assessments. However, many more aspects are being researched in it so that their accuracy can be identified. It is expected that this one test can play a big role in the diagnosis of cancer.
