Women who are breastfeeding after pregnancy should take special care of their diet because it affects the health of their child. That is why it is said that during this time women should take the right diet because mother's milk becomes the form of food for the children.

If there is a deficiency or excess of anything in the milk, then it can become a problem for the baby. That's why you should not make some things a part of your diet.

On this topic, we have spoken to AnupamaGirotra, who is a dietician and nutritionist by profession. She told that lactating women should avoid certain things in their diet.

Otherwise, it can harm the health of the baby as well as the mother. Let us know which foods should not be consumed by breastfeeding women.

Do not consume high mercury foods

You should not eat fish that contain high mercury. It is very harmful to health. Not only fish but foods that contain mercury should also be ignored.

Also do not eat meat. This leads to weight gain. If you want to eat, then include lean meat in your diet.

Caffeine can be harmful

Caffeine is found in coffee, so it is not considered suitable for breastfeeding women. This is because children cannot digest it from adults. Due to this, the child starts getting sleep deprivation, irritation and crankiness.

High amounts of caffeine can lower the iron level in milk, which in turn lowers hemoglobin in the baby. So drink less tea or coffee.

Try to give up the habit of drinking coffee for some time or drink only 2-3 cups a day.

The harm caused by alcohol

We all are aware that the consumption of alcohol is injurious to health. Especially breastfeeding women should stay away from alcohol. This not only harms the child but also the mother because it reaches the baby through breast milk. This affects neurological development. Therefore, one should not drink alcohol for at least 2 years. But if you still want to drink, you should stop for 2 hours before breastfeeding.

Don't eat processed food

Although processed foods are easy to make, they are not good for health. They are not considered good at all, especially for breastfeeding women.

This is because these foods contain preservatives and additives, which affect the health of the baby.

An overdose of additives can cause abdominal pain in the child. Apart from this, it can also cause allergies. Due to this, the child will become irritable.
