There are a lot of changes in the family structure in today's time. Earlier, it was common to live in a joint family, but now the new generation, especially girls, have started shying away from living with their in-laws. Even though joint families are rarely seen in the society now, but in Indian families, parents and their children still live together. In ordinary families, the son lives with both his wife and parents after marriage. However, in most cases, girls today do not want to live with their in-laws and in-laws. There are many social, mental and practical reasons behind this. Here are the 5 main possible reasons due to which girls do not want to live with their in-laws after marriage.
Lack of freedom
Today's girls have their own thoughts, decisions and lifestyle, in which they do not want any kind of interference. Girls want to decorate their house according to their own choice after marriage. Apart from this, girls want to decide what to eat for breakfast or what to cook for lunch and dinner, keeping in mind their comfort and their husband's choice, but often in Indian families, decisions related to the house depend on the mother-in-law and father-in-law.
The mother-in-law wants the daughter-in-law to maintain the house according to her choice. Modern girls take their own decisions, from their clothes to their lifestyle, but while living with the mother-in-law and father-in-law, they have to mold their lifestyle and way of living according to them. In Indian families, even today, lunch or dinner is prepared after asking the mother-in-law and father-in-law. In such a situation, girls start feeling a lack of independence, whether it is related to their personal life or household work.
Generational gap
The girl has lived with her parents since birth, so she is aware of the customs and traditions of her family since childhood. She does not face any problem in adjusting there, but when she comes to her in-laws' house, she feels the generational difference regarding ideology and traditions.
From time to time, the mother-in-law tells the daughter-in-law what the rules are in her house, how to live in her family, what is done and what used to happen in her time. All this information is new for the girl and some of those things do not match her ideology. In such a situation, it becomes difficult to adjust between the two, which can cause tension.
Not being able to spend time with the husband
Girls want to spend as much time as possible with their spouse. There should be a private space between them, where they can give time and importance to their relationship. This personal space is lacking when living with the mother-in-law and father-in-law. The girl who has left her parents' house has to first adjust with her spouse, but when the mother-in-law and father-in-law are also there, then the challenge of adjusting with everyone at once comes upon her. Due to this, the girls start feeling stressed.
Interference in the relationship between husband and wife
When two strangers get married, there is love as well as conflict between them. When both start living together, they want to take their own decisions related to their relationship, but when mother-in-law and father-in-law live together, the privacy between husband and wife starts ending.
Mother-in-law and father-in-law interfere in the relationship of their son and daughter-in-law, which creates distance in their relationship. In case of conflict between the two, they want to solve the matter together, but in a joint family, these decisions are often taken collectively or by the elders of the house, due to which girls feel their role and rights are limited. Apart from this, due to the interference of mother-in-law and father-in-law, the son and daughter-in-law make a superficial compromise, because they do not get a chance to convince each other.
Choice in career and family
Nowadays girls are very serious about career. Girls are employed. Both husband and wife work together and both together take care of the house. But when mother-in-law, father-in-law and daughter-in-law live with the son, there is pressure on the girls that they are not taking care of the house due to job and career. They are accused of giving priority to themselves before the family. The mother-in-law and father-in-law expect the daughter-in-law to handle both the job and the home and the family. They understand the son's fatigue and troubles but not the daughter-in-law's. Even in such a situation, the girl does not want to live with her in-laws after marriage.
