Meta-owned social media platform is shutting down its Messenger Lite app. Messenger Lite was introduced as a lite version of Facebook Messenger. Messenger Lite allows users to chat with their friends on Facebook with less phone space. This app will be closed from next month. The company says that users are advised to use Messenger to continue chatting on Facebook.

Messenger Lite will be closed from this day
Facebook has already removed Messenger Lite from the Google Play Store. Now the users who have already downloaded and are using this app will not be able to use this app after September 18. "Starting August 21, users using the Messenger Lite app for Android can use Messenger or FB Lite to send and receive messages on Messenger," a Meta spokesperson said in an email.

Messenger Lite was launched in 2016
Meta introduced its messaging app Lite in the year 2016. This feature allows chatting with less space in Android devices with low-power processing. However, users only get limited features with the app. Let us tell you that Meta had launched Messenger Lite for iOS, but the company discontinued it in 2020.

According to mobile analytics firm data.ai, the Lite version of the app has received about 760 million downloads globally. India has the largest share in this, followed by Brazil and Indonesia. The United States ranks 8th in terms of Messenger Lite downloads.

SMS support will not be available on Messenger

Recently Meta has announced the closure of the SMS facility for Messenger. According to the company, from September 28 next month, users will not be able to use the messenger to send and receive SMS messages sent through cellular networks.
