There are several ways to check the current balance in the Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) including the offline SMS-based method. If you want to check your EPF balance online, there are two ways to do so. One is by visiting the official Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) website and the other is by using the UMANG app. In both cases, you need to know your Universal Account Number (UAN). To check your EPF balance online, you will also need to register your mobile number with EPFO. On the other hand, PF balance can be easily checked through the Umang app on mobile.

Step 2: Download and then open the UMANG app. To use EPFO services, you must first register on the UMANG app. Registration can also be done using a mobile number or through 'My Identity' or DigiLocker. According to the Umang app, "My Identity is a national sign-on-one citizen login to access multiple public services from various departments."

Step 3: Once the registration is done you will see that there is a search bar at the top of the app. It will read 'Search for Services'. Click on it and write EPFO.

Step 4: Various services related to EPFO will be displayed. When someone searches for EPFO, there will be two buttons. One is the 'Service' and the other is the 'Department' option. Under 'Service', go to 'View Passbook'.

Step 5: As soon as you click on it, there will be three options – 'Employee-Centric Service', 'General Service', and 'Employer-Centric Service'. You have to click on 'Employee-Centric Services'. A new page will open. This new page will ask for a UAN number. After entering the UAN number, click on 'Login'.

Step 6: In the next step another new page will open. This page will inform you that an OTP has been sent to the mobile number registered with EPFO.

Step 7: Once you enter the OTP and click on the 'OK' button, it will take you to a new page where you can view your EPF passbook and check your EPF balance. An important thing to remember here is that the mobile number should be registered with the same UAN for which one is searching the passbook. If it is not registered then this service cannot be used and the system will show error
