People often suffer from cold during the cold season. As the cold increases, the problem of sore throat and throat pain increases. Many times you might have noticed that along with cold, your ears also start hurting. Many times this pain is so severe that you become restless. Often the question comes to mind what is the connection between nose and throat? Why does ear pain occur due to a cold? We talked to experts about this. ENT expert DrTanmay Bansal is giving information about this.
Why does your ear hurt during cough and cold?
The nose, ears and throat all three are interconnected. There is a tube to connect the ear and nose which we call the Eustachian tube or ventilation tube, which goes from the inner part of the ear i.e. from the middle ear to the back of the nose. The function of this tube is to ventilate the ears regularly.
In such a situation, when you have a cold, the nasal part of this tube gets closed and the ventilation of the ear gets blocked. Due to this, mucus starts accumulating in the ear.
This reduces hearing, causes ringing in the ears or causes heaviness in the ears. If pus gets into it, the patient may experience severe pain in the ear, get fever and pus also starts coming out from the ear, which we call in common parlance as ear discharge. Experts say that the ear is a delicate organ, so instead of adopting any kind of home remedy, you should contact a doctor without any delay. Experts say that as soon as your cold becomes normal, the problem of ear pain also reduces.
