What do dietitians say?
While talking to Amar Ujala, dietitian Akanksha Singh says, there are many food items during festival days which you should either avoid eating or eat in minimum quantity. Since most of the things available in the market these days are rich in high amounts of cholesterol, fat, and unhealthy fats, their consumption can lead to various health risks.
Apart from this, if you are already suffering from diabetes, cholesterol, blood pressure, or respiratory problems, then you need to be even more alert.
Sweets and carbohydrate foods
Sweets have great importance in Diwali, people like to eat different types of sweets, but always keep in mind that consuming too many sweets can increase problems for your health. The sweets available in the market these days may be adulterated; apart from this, stale sweets increase the risk of stomach infection. Too much sweets can also cause sugar and weight gain.
It is important to stay away from fried snacks
One should avoid consuming too much oil-fried food and snacks at Diwali parties. Such snacks produce excessive gas in the stomach and can cause many types of gastric problems. Apart from this, they also contain high amounts of carbohydrates and salt, due to which you may be at risk of increased blood pressure and digestive disorders.
Junk food items
Cravings for oily and junk foods increase during festivals, however, you need to control yourself from excessive consumption of these food items. During Diwali, there is already a lot of baked and fried food, high in flour, oil, and sugar. Therefore, it is advisable not to consume too much of snacks like burgers, fries, pasta, etc. There is a need to be a little more cautious about your food selection.
Complete abstinence from alcohol and smoking
Last but not least, there is a need to stay away from alcohol and smoking during this festive season. Not only this but to keep your health always fit, this Diwali, take a pledge to give up both of these completely. Alcohol and smoking can have negative effects on the entire body. Apart from triggering many chronic diseases, they can also cause many types of cancer.
