Often people clap during puja and aarti, but one should not clap during Lakshmi puja on Diwali. Also, Aarti should not be sung in a very loud voice. It is believed that Goddess Lakshmi hates noise. Mata Lakshmi loves peace, hence do not make noise or clap during the puja on this day.
Also, there should not be any quarrels between family members on the day of Diwali. Apart from this, one should not insult any person on this day.
Do not wear old or torn clothes even by mistake during puja on Diwali night. Torn clothes are considered a sign of poverty. Also, keep in mind the colors during puja. One should not wear black colored clothes on Diwali night.
Apart from this, do not leave the place of worship empty or dark after the puja. Keep in mind that the lamp should remain lit throughout the night, for this use a sufficient amount of ghee in the lamp.
On the day of Diwali, do not keep any old or junk items in the house. It is considered inauspicious. Remove broken watches, broken bottles, mirrors, old clothes, other junk that you have not used for years from the house on the day before Diwali.
