Problems related to the brain and nerves are being reported to be increasing rapidly globally. Diseases like Alzheimer's-Dementia are troubling a large number of people. Alzheimer's disease causes memory problems and difficulty in talking. If it is not taken care of on time, then in serious situations it can cause dementia.

Dementia causes problems like loss of memory, language, problem-solving, and thinking ability. According to a statistic, more than 55 million (5.5 crores) people globally can become victims of dementia.

It is common to have such problems with increasing age, especially after the age of 60 years, the risk increases even more. Researchers said that many bad habits of our daily routine can be responsible for this disease, which all people must know and keep trying from an early age to prevent it.

Risk of Alzheimer's and Dementia
Recent studies on the increasing risk of Alzheimer's and dementia have found that this brain problem is being seen in many people even at the age of 55. 12 risk factors have been considered major for 40 percent of dementia cases.

Among these factors, low levels of education, hearing problems, high blood pressure, smoking, obesity, depression, physical inactivity, diabetes, excessive drinking, severe brain injury, air pollution, and social isolation are major. People suffering from such problems need to be more alert about this brain disease.

Pay attention to these risk factors as well
In the latest update, two more risk factors have been added for dementia - vision loss and high cholesterol. The study says that if efforts are made to improve these 14 risk factors, then about half of the dementia cases worldwide can be prevented. Since there is no specific treatment for this brain disease yet, it is very important to keep using preventive methods from an early age.

What do experts say?

Neurologist Charles Marshall of Queen Mary University of London says it is not clear whether we will be able to eliminate any of these risk factors. Many campaigns are already being run globally to reduce smoking and high blood pressure, although this is more a matter of self-awareness than a campaign.

Neuroscientist Tara Spires-Jones of Edinburgh University says that it is important that we do not blame people suffering from dementia for their brain disease. This problem can happen to anyone, for which many factors are considered responsible.

Testing treatment methods
No specific treatment or effective medicine has been found for dementia yet. But since the beginning of last year, two Alzheimer's treatments have been approved in the United States - Biogen's lecanemab and Eli Lilly's donanemab. These drugs target the formation of two proteins (tau and amyloid beta), which are considered to be one of the main reasons for the progression of the disease. However, research is still going on to know how effective they are.

Health experts said that if measures are taken to control this problem from adulthood, then this disease occurring in old age can be prevented.
