Constipation is a serious problem related to digestion which occurs due to an unhealthy lifestyle. When a person is unable to defecate properly for several days, we know it as constipation. Due to this one feels quite uncomfortable. Some people say that constipation bothers them more in winter. Let us know why this happens.
Why does constipation increase in winter?
- The biggest reason for this is the lack of water. People drink less water during the winter season. Because of this, the body becomes dehydrated. Water is needed to digest food, hence when there is no fluid in the body, lubrication of the intestines becomes necessary. This causes constipation along with slow digestion.
- In the winter season, we often consume more tea or coffee than the other two to keep the body warm. It also promotes dehydration.
- We feel hungrier in the winter season, hence instead of eating healthy things, we eat more like pakodas, samosas, fried kachoris and junk food in which the amount of fibre is negligible. Fiber promotes gut and microbiome health. When it is deficient, there is a problem in passing stool and constipation occurs.
- We also reduce physical activity during the winter season. Due to this, our metabolism slows down. Due to slow metabolism, our digestive system does not function properly. Intestinal movement becomes slow. Constipation also occurs due to these reasons.
