Chhath Puja 2023: According to the Vedic calendar, Chhath Mahaparva is celebrated every year on the Shashthi Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month, but two days before that i.e. on Chaturthi Tithi, Chhath Puja starts with Nahay-Khay. The first Arghya of Chhath is given on Shashthi Tithi. This Arghya is offered to the setting sun. At this time, milk is poured into water and Arghya is offered to the last rays of the sun. It is believed that Surya has a wife named Pratyusha and this Arghya is offered to her only. There are some special benefits of offering Arghya in the evening. This improves eyesight, gives a long life, and brings financial prosperity. Students can also offer Arghya at this time. This will also benefit them in education. This time the first Arghya of Chhath will be offered on 19th November.

Rules for offering water to the setting sun
To offer Arghya, take water in a pot and add a few drops of raw milk to it. In the same vessel, put red sandalwood, rice, red flowers, and Kush, face the Sun with a happy heart, bring the Kalash to the middle of the chest, while chanting the Surya Mantra, slowly flow the stream of water and offer Arghya to Lord Sun and offer floral tribute. At this time, if you keep your eyes on the stream side of the Kalash, the image of the Sun will be visible in the form of a small dot and if seen with concentration, a ring of seven colors will be visible. After Arghya, salute the Sun and do three parikramas. Worship the Sun God by decorating the basket with fruits and thekuva etc. After worship and Arghya, pray for the fulfillment of whatever wish you have. Try that when you are offering Arghya to the Sun, the color of the Sun should be red. If you are unable to offer Arghya at this time, then offering prayers after having darshan will also be beneficial.

Result of offering water to the sun
Worship of the Sun is particularly beneficial mainly at three times – morning, midday, and evening. Worshiping the Sun in the morning improves health. Midday worship gives name and fame. Evening worship provides prosperity. The setting Sun lives with his second wife Pratyusha, offering Arghya to whom is immediately effective. Those who worship the setting sun, they must also worship the morning sun.
