Chana dal nankeen is a crispy and savoury snack made with split chickpeas (chana dal), spices, and oil. It's a popular snack in India and can be served with tea or as an evening snack. Here's a recipe to make chana dal namkeen:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup chana dal (split chickpeas)
- 2 cups water
- 1 tsp salt (or as per taste)
- 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 1/2 tsp coriander powder
- 1/4 tsp black pepper powder
- 2 tbsp oil for frying
Instructions:
-
Wash the chana dal thoroughly and soak it in 2 cups of water for 2-3 hours.
-
After 2-3 hours, drain the water and spread the soaked chana dal on a clean towel to absorb excess water.
-
In a mixing bowl, add the drained chana dal, salt, red chili powder, turmeric powder, cumin seeds, coriander powder, and black pepper powder. Mix well and set aside for 10-15 minutes.
-
Heat oil in a deep pan or kadhai over medium heat.
-
Once the oil is hot, add the seasoned chana dal to the oil in batches. Fry them on medium heat for 5-6 minutes until they turn golden brown and crispy. Make sure to stir occasionally to ensure even frying.
-
Once the chana dal is crispy, remove them from the oil using a slotted spoon and drain the excess oil on a paper towel.
-
Repeat the process with the remaining chana dal until all of them are fried.
-
Let the chana dal namkeen cool down to room temperature.
-
Store the chana dal namkeen in an airtight container for later consumption or serve them immediately as a snack.
