According to a report, major action has been taken by the central government on three major e-commerce companies, Amazon, Flipkart, and Snapdeal. Let's know the whole matter in the news below.

BIS has seized 18,600 toys across the country from retail stores including Hamleys and Archies for selling goods without the quality mark.

"The Bureau of Indian Standards, like the consumer protection regulator CCPA, has also issued notices to three leading e-commerce companies, Amazon, Flipkart, and Snapdeal, for violation of the Toys Quality Control Order," news agency PTI reported.
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is the national standards body responsible for the standardization, marking, and quality certification of goods. Talking to the media, BIS Director General Pramod Kumar Tiwari said, “We have received complaints from domestic manufacturers of toys selling which are not in conformity with the BIS standard. We conducted 44 raids in the last month and seized 18,600 toys from major retail stores.

Where did the raid happen?

He said retail stores including Hamleys, Archies, WH Smith, Kids Zone, and Cocokart were raided at major airports and malls across the country.

Tiwari said that legal action would be taken against the retailers under the BIS Act.

Nidhi Khare, head of the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA), said, "We have also issued notices to Amazon, Flipkart, and Snapdeal for selling toys without the BIS quality mark."

In 2020, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry issued the Toys (Quality Control) Order, 2020, which came into effect on January 1, 2021. As per the Toys (Quality Control) Order, 2020, all toy manufacturers in India are required to obtain a BIS license. This was done to prevent the sale of cheap-quality goods in the market.
