Exercising is considered very important to attain good health. However, you cannot take care of your health just by working out. Rather, for this you must pay attention to your diet also.

When you work out or do strength training, your muscles break. In such a situation, after a workout, muscles need food for repair and recovery.

Many people feel very hungry after a workout. In such a situation, you should turn to protein-rich sources. Protein helps your muscles recover and repair. So, today in this article, RituPuri, Dietician of ESIC Hospital, Central Government Hospital, is telling you what you can eat as snacks after post-workout-

Which protein to take

When it comes to post-workout snacks, you should pay special attention to your protein source. Protein is very important for the repair and recovery of muscle tissues. There are two types of proteins – high biological protein availability and low biological protein availability.

Where high biological protein availability is immediately absorbed by the body and gives you recovery. At the same time, low biological protein availability causes gradual breakdown in the body and hence you do not get instant recovery after a workout.

In such a situation, after a workout, you should choose protein sources which have high biological protein availability so the muscles can get a quick recovery.

Milk

Milk can be taken as a snack after post-workout. It contains about 20 percent whey protein and 80 percent casein protein. This 20 percent whey protein breaks down immediately in the body and helps in muscle recovery and repair, whereas casein protein breaks down slowly and gives you energy throughout the day.

Chicken wrap

Chicken is considered a good source of protein. It has high biological protein availability, due to which it helps in your recovery immediately. At the same time, it replenishes glycogen levels.

Eggs

If you are looking for a healthy snacking post workout, then eating eggs is definitely a very good idea. It not only has high biological protein availability, but it is also a good source of omega-3 fatty acids.

You can eat boiled and peeled eggs as a snack. Many times people are confused about whether they should eat egg white or egg yolk. This will completely depend on your diet, workout and body needs. But still, you can eat two eggs with yolk after a workout. Apart from this, you take egg white.

Yogurt and Fruit Smoothie

Having a smoothie as a post workout snack is also a good idea. You can prepare a smoothie by mixing lots of nuts fruits etc. in curd. Not only do you get good protein, but you also get carbs. Which provides energy along with muscle recovery.
