When we think of silk fabric, the image of Banarasi silk saree pops up in our minds. Banarasi silk has been popular among women for its beauty over the years.

You will find more than one Banarasi silk saree in the wardrobe of saree lover women. The interesting thing is that no matter how much you wear a Banarasi silk saree, it never looks old or simply says that its fashion never goes out. In such a situation, if you wear the same saree even for 4 times, and then for the 5th time you will start feeling bored of wearing the same saree.

Especially if the saree is heavy then you cannot carry it for every occasion. In such a situation, there is a very good rule in the fashion industry that you can upcycle your old saree and make new outfits out of it.

By the way, the fashion of upcycling the saree and recreating other outfits from it has been going on for years. But now sustainability is being promoted fast by Bollywood stars and Indian fashion designers and many celebrities and fashion designers are working on it and showcasing it as well.

Alia Bhatt started

Alia Bhatt got married sometime back and in her mehendi ceremony, she wore a lehenga with patches of upcycled sarees, which was designed by fashion designer Manish Malhotra. These patchworks were taken from fabrics like Kashmiri, Banarasi, Gujarati, Kanchipuram etc. and the best part is that all the pieces of fabric were taken from an old saree.

However, before Alia, there have been many other actresses who wore sarees from their grandmother's era for their weddings. The names of Radhika Apte and YamiGautam figure in these celebrities. But Alia Bhatt has started the practice of upcycling the old saree and making a new outfit out of it.
