History of Baluchari Sarees

However, it is a specimen of Persian art and the Mughals from Iran brought it to India first to Varanasi and then from thise to the Nawab of Bengal, MurshidQuli Khan, to Baluchar village in Murshidabad.
  • Any art is identified by its origin. Baluchari is identified with Baluchar because for the first time it was started to be made uniquely from here. If some of the designs of Baluchari sarees are seen from the early period, then the paintings of Nawabs, Ranis, and Hookahs etc. will be found in it, which are a very good example of the workmanship of that period.
