Till now many studies have been alerting us about the harmful chemicals present in cosmetic products. Researchers say that many creams and other products claiming to brighten the face may contain such harmful ingredients, which increases the risk of serious and fatal diseases like cancer. Even in the research done on deodorants, caution has been given about the dangers caused by it. However, the matter that has come to light this time is surprising.

According to a report published in The New England Journal of Medicine, a woman taking hair straightening treatment at a salon has suffered kidney damage. According to the report, the woman used to frequently visit salons to get her hair straightened over about three years, during which time she started having some health problems. During the investigation, it was found that he had serious kidney problem.

In such a situation, the question is whether hair straightening can cause problems like kidney failure.

Kidney problems due to hair straightening treatment
Health experts said in the medical report that some products used for hair straightening may also pose a risk of serious problems like argon damage. Doctors said, the woman is 26 years old and she used to visit the salon several times between June 2020 and July 2022 for hair treatment.

The woman had no prior health problems, but every time she took treatment, she experienced vomiting, diarrhea, fever, and back pain. During treatment he also complained of a burning sensation on his scalp and an ulcer had developed on his head.

Diagnosed with kidney failure
The woman's condition was worsening with time. After this, during the treatment, it was found that the level of creatinine in the blood was significantly increased, due to which kidney problems were also suspected. In the next stages of investigation, the woman was diagnosed with kidney failure.

According to the report, the woman had also complained of blood in the urine, after which the doctors asked for a CT scan but no other signs of infection were seen.

Straightening cream may contain dangerous chemicals
Doctors say, that during hair treatment, straightening cream was applied which contains the chemical glyoxylic acid. Doctors concluded that this probably caused irritation and ulcers on his scalp.

Later, experiments conducted on rats revealed that this acid gets absorbed into the body through the skin and can reach the kidneys and other organs, due to which there can be a risk of many types of health problems.

What do experts say?
The study said the woman suffered acute kidney injury due to oxalate nephropathy. This is a rare disorder that causes calcium oxalate crystals to form in the kidney tubes, which reduces kidney function.

Glyoxylic acid has been used in a variety of cosmetic products, says Dr. Joshua David King, an associate professor of medicine and pharmacy at the University of Maryland, adding that the potential side effects have led to calls for it to be banned and replaced with healthier alternatives. It becomes necessary to pay attention. Apart from this, everyone must take expert advice before using any type of cosmetic product.
