To keep the body healthy and fit, it is important that you pay special attention to your lifestyle and diet. Nutritionists say that if we all improve our eating habits, then we can prevent many types of serious and chronic diseases. In many studies related to dietary disorders, people have been warned about 'white poison'.
'White poison' i.e. excessive consumption of sugar and salt is considered to be the main reason for many rapidly increasing chronic diseases in the present time.
Nutritionists say that excessive consumption of salt and sugar increases the risk of serious problems ranging from diabetes to hypertension and inflammation. This has been seen to cause the risk of both short-term and long-term health disorders. If you also consume them in excess, then be careful.
Problems caused by sugar and salt
Dietician Garima Taneja said in a post on social media, both sugar and salt are harmful to our overall health. Sugar is usually considered to be a cause of diabetes and salt is considered to be a cause of high blood pressure. But for diabetics, salt and blood pressure-heart patients, sugar can also have many serious side effects.
Unfortunately, most people in India consume much more than the daily prescribed amount of sugar and salt. Due to this, the risk of inflammation and cancer in the body increases.
Disadvantages of consuming too much sugar
Everyone is aware of the risks of type-2 diabetes due to consuming too much sugar, but do you know that its excessive consumption also increases the risk of heart diseases in you?
Evidence shows that a high-sugar diet increases the risk of obesity and inflammation in the body as well as triglycerides, blood sugar and blood pressure. All of these are risk factors for heart disease. A study conducted on more than 25,877 adults found that individuals who consumed more amounts of added sugar were at a higher risk of heart disease and coronary-related complications.
Be careful if you eat too much salt
Just like eating too much sugar, eating too much salt is also harmful for health. Excessive salt not only increases blood pressure, but it is also considered a factor in increasing stomach cancer.
A review of studies conducted on more than 268,000 participants found that people who consume up to 3 grams of salt per day may have a 68% higher risk of stomach cancer than those who eat 1 gram or less of salt per day.
What do experts say?
Dieticians say that salt and sugar are called 'white poison' due to the health risks caused by it. Salt absorbs calcium from our bones while sugar accelerates the aging process and causes depression. To maintain both physical and mental health, it is important to reduce the amount of both salt and sugar from the daily diet.
