Along with the 5G launch, telecom companies have also started their 5G service. But have you ever thought that a 5G network can also be used for wrongdoings? This information has been given in a recent document.

In October last year, the government launched the 5G network in India. Since then, the government and telecom companies have focused on spreading their 5G services across India. At the forefront of this list are two telecom operators – Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel. But have you ever thought that this new network can also be harmful to you? Yes, some IPS officers have presented a paper, stating that the 5G network may be responsible for money laundering and drug trafficking. Let's know about it.

5G network can become a means of crime

A major security meeting has submitted a paper warning against the vulnerabilities of high-speed 5G telecom networks. These have been written by some officers of the Indian Police Service (IPS). These papers state that 5G can become a means of connectivity for middlemen and agents to commit crimes such as drug trafficking, human and organ trafficking, money laundering, and terrorism.

PM Modi also became a part of the meeting

Explain that in this three-day annual conference, the meeting was attended by the Directors General of Police (DGPs) and Inspectors General of Police (IGPs) as well as the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. Apart from this, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and about 350 police officers of the country were also part of this meeting.

5G is vulnerable to cyber attacks

The papers state that the 5G network is built on an easily accessible and open Internet Protocol. Moreover, it has inherited all the vulnerabilities of the previous generations, which makes it vulnerable to cyber-attacks and compromises the security of the entire system.

Evolution of Reserved 5G Bandwidth

The IPS officers who wrote these papers suggested that a reserved 5G bandwidth and highly secure equipment should be actively developed for sensitive government-related communications and military use. Also, only government-recognized firms should be allowed to work for government agencies, which have the least cyber risk or work with more secure protocols.

Can be used for money laundering

The paper also notes that 5G can become the perfect platform for middlemen and agents to make connections for crimes such as drug trafficking, human and organ trafficking, money laundering, terror financing, etc. The core of 5G networks is built on easily accessible and open Internet protocols such as HTTP and Transport Layer Security (TLS). In a network-slicing environment, different subnetworks will have different natures of cyber security.

Drone and robotic surgery can be misused

Due to network function virtualization (NFV), criminals can plan or execute attacks to access and even change telephone numbers for monitoring. There are many improvements in 5G that support remote control functions like drones, robotic surgery, etc. But criminals can exploit this aspect as well.
