Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag has backed Mumbai Indians star batsman Suryakumar Yadav to be made the number three permanent batsman for Mumbai because of his brilliance against pace and spin. In a crucial IPL 2023 match, five-time champions Mumbai Indians and newcomers Lucknow Super Giants will lock horns with each other in Lucknow on Tuesday evening as they aim to move a step closer to booking a playoff berth.

Big chance for Mumbai

Living up to their 'late bloomers' tag, MI picked up the pace in the second half of IPL 2023 and their juggernaut continues. The Rohit Sharma-led side has won four out of their last five matches and will be aiming to get two crucial points in Lucknow tonight. Sehwag said on Star Sports' Cricket Live, "Sky can be the permanent number 3 for Mumbai Indians as he is a good player of pace and spin."

Meanwhile, former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh believes Mumbai could very well finish in the top two at the end of the Indian League stage and give themselves an extra chance to lift their sixth IPL trophy. Harbhajan said, "Mumbai Indians have proved once again, this is a champion team and it knows how to come back strongly.

People weren't counting this MI out after losing the first leg of the competition, but once it got back on the winning track, it became unstoppable. It can also end the league stage in the top two." He said, "If MI wins the remaining two games, it will have 18 points. GT already has 18 points and except MI no other team will be able to get 18 points now.
