Yuzvendra Chahal Breaks Lasith Malinga IPL Record: Yuzvendra Chahal may have been washed out in the match against Punjab Kings, but he broke the record of star Lasith Malinga by taking one wicket.

New Delhi: It was a bad day for Rajasthan Royals star spinner Yuzvendra Chahal in the 8th match of IPL 2023 against Punjab Kings. The 32-year-old spinner was washed out in this match played at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. He gave 50 runs in 4 overs and took one wicket. But with one wicket, Chahal has achieved a special record. He has broken a special record of the team's bowling coach Lasith Malinga.

Chahal, who started the season with four wickets for 17 runs in the opening match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, surpassed former Mumbai Indians fast bowler Malinka for the highest wicket-taking tally. Malinga took a total of 170 wickets in 122 IPL matches as a Mumbai Indians player and on Wednesday surpassed Chahal Malinga by taking the wicket of Punjab wicketkeeper-batsman Jitesh Sharma. He is now the second highest wicket taker.

Former West Indies cricketer Dwayne Bravo tops the list of highest wicket takers in IPL history. The Indian spinner now has 171 wickets in 133 matches and is behind legendary West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo on the all-time list. The 39-year-old Bravo, who retired from the IPL last year, took 183 wickets in 161 matches as a player for Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings.

Chahal took four wickets in Rajasthan Royals' first match and in doing so became the first Indian bowler to take 300 or more wickets in T20 cricket. Apart from this, he also broke Amit Mishra's record of taking the most wickets among Indians in IPL history. The 40-year-old Mishra, who is part of the Lucknow Super Giants team in this year's IPL, has dismissed 166 batters in 154 matches. He has a chance to take more wickets than Malinga in the upcoming match.
