Trump Reacts to Pahalgam Attack: Says India-Pakistan Have Been Fighting for 1000 Years, Urges Calm

After the devastating Pahalgam terrorist attack, US President Donald Trump has spoken out, calling the incident a “very bad attack” and acknowledging the sharp spike in tensions between India and Pakistan. Speaking to journalists aboard Air Force One, Trump made a series of candid remarks about the situation in Kashmir and his relationships with both nations.

Pahalgam Attack: A ‘Very Bad’ Incident

Trump condemned the attack, where 28 people, including tourists and locals, lost their lives, saying:

“Yesterday’s attack was very bad, very bad. 30 people died. It’s deeply disturbing.”

He emphasized his closeness to both India and Pakistan, describing Kashmir as a region plagued by centuries of conflict:

“They’ve been fighting for a thousand years, maybe even longer.”

On the Long-Running Tensions

When asked about the worsening India-Pakistan tensions after the Pahalgam incident, Trump said:

“There has been tension on that border for 1500 years. I’m sure they will resolve it somehow. I know both leaders.”

However, he stopped short of saying whether he would directly intervene or contact both heads of state.

Support for India Against Terrorism

Before these comments, Trump had personally spoken to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, offering America's full support in ensuring the culprits behind the terrorist attack are brought to justice. On his social media platform Truth Social, he had earlier posted:

“Very disturbing news from Kashmir. America stands firmly with India against terrorism.”

Bottom Line

While Trump acknowledges the deep historical roots of the India-Pakistan conflict, he seems to be urging both sides to manage the situation independently. Meanwhile, the US has clearly stated its solidarity with India in the fight against terrorism.
