Where is Chopta located?
It is located in the Rudraprayag district of the Indian state of Uttarakhand, roughly midway between the Kedarnath Temple and the Badrinath Temple. There are two places named Chopta in Uttarakhand, the distance between which is about 73 km. If you just search Chopta on Google Maps and follow that route, you will reach another Chopta in Uttarakhand instead of Chopta. So if you do not know the route of Chopta, then you have to search properly on Google Maps.

Why is Chopta called Mini Switzerland?
In Chopta, you will find lush green meadows in the mountains, which are called Bugyal by the local people. Seeing the presence of these bugyals in Chopta, it has been given the title of Mini Switzerland, where every year lakhs of tourists from abroad come for camping.

Tungnath Temple

Kedar, the highest of the five, Tungnath is a grand temple whose aura is soothing to both the eyes and the soul. Situated at an altitude of 3680 meters and on the Chandranath mountain, Tungnath is an important Hindu pilgrimage site dedicated to Lord Shiva and where his hands are worshipped. This temple is believed to be more than 1000 years old and was discovered by Adi Shankaracharya. This holy temple is situated in the Rudraprayag district of the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand and is at a distance of about 4 km from the grand meadows of Chopta. Like many high-altitude temples in Uttarakhand, Tungnath can also be reached only by trekking.

Chandrashila
Situated at an altitude of 4020 m, Chandrashila can be reached after a trek of 1 km from Tungnath. From this place, a wonderful view of the huge Himalayan peaks including Nanda Devi, Trishul, Bandarpunch, and Chaukhamba is visible. Chandrashila is the peak of the Chandranath mountain on which the Tungnath temple of Panch Kedar is situated.

Deoriatal
Deoriatal is situated on the Ukhimath-Chopta road. It is a high-altitude natural lake that can be reached by a trek of about 3 km from Mastura and Sari villages. This place is a wonderful place for camping and trekking which is also wonderful to experience.

Best Time To Visit Chopta
You can visit this place of Uttarakhand any time of the year, but the best time to go there is in the summer months (April-June), because it is cold in this place even in the summer days, due to which most of the people leave their homes. Some people like to visit this place when children get a summer break from school and some people to escape from the heat of their cities. If you are also planning to visit Chopta, then the summer months would be perfect for you. Chopta receives heavy snowfall every year. If you want to experience snowfall in Chopta then you have to visit Chopta in December to March.

Temperature in Chopta
Chopta's temperature remains very cool for 12 months, you will never feel the heat here. The temperature in Chopta from March to May is around 5°C to 20°C. The temperature here also goes up to -10 to -15 degrees during winter. You can come to Chopta in any season but keep warm clothes with you.

Food and drink facilities in Chopta
Good restaurants for food and hotels and tents for a night's stay are also provided here. If you want to pitch your tent here and enjoy cooking and eating by yourself, you can do that too. Earlier, some money had to be paid to set up one's tent here, but this rule was removed a few years ago. In today's time, there is no charge for setting up a tent here.

The nearest airport to Chopta is Jolly Grant Airport located at a distance of 221 km in Dehradun city. From there you can take a bus/taxi to Chopta.

By Rail - Nearest railway station is Rishikesh and Haridwar. The Rishikesh and Haridwar railway station is well connected by rail to major cities and towns in India and is located approximately 186 km from Chopta. To reach Chopta from Haridwar or Rishikesh one can take a bus or cab which are easily available.

By Road - Chopta has good road connectivity from Haridwar, Dehradun, Srinagar, and Rishikesh. Buses operated by the State Transport Corporation from these destinations are easily available till Guptkashi or Ukhimath from where you can easily reach Chopta or you can take a taxi service which is easily accessible to Dehradun, Rishikesh, Haridwar, Srinagar, Gopeshwar, Ukhimath Available for Chopta from places like Guptkashi, etc.
