The fort of Sinhagarh is considered to be about 2000 years old, which was earlier also known as Kondhana Fort. It was ruled by Koli King Naam Naik till the beginning of the 14th century, but it was conquered by Muhammad bin Tughlaq in 1328.
However, later Pune was handed over to Shahaji Bhosale, who was the commander of Ibrahim Adil Shah at that time. Later this fort passed from the hands of Shahaji's son Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
Many battles were fought over this fort, later Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj captured the fort of Sinhagad with the help of his brave soldier Tanaji Malasure and hoisted his flag, but Tanaji was martyred in this battle.
A Bollywood film has also been made based on the story of Tanaji Malusare, named 'Tanhaji'. In this movie, the lead roles were played by Ajay Devgan, Kajol, Saif Ali Khan and Sharad Kelkar.
