The world famous Jagannath Rath Yatra is starting on 7th July. A grand event is organized in Puri for Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra. Jagannath Temple, one of the four Dhams of India, is located in Puri, Odisha. Rath Yatra is organized from the second day of Shukla Paksha in the month of Ashadh. During this time, Lord Shri Krishna, the incarnation of Lord Vishnu, who is called Lord Jagannath in Puri, comes out of the temple to roam. He is accompanied by brother Balram and sister Subhadra.

People from all over the country and abroad participate in the Yatra. In such a situation, if you go to Puri for Jagannath Rath Yatra, then you can also visit the nearby tourist places. There are many famous temples in Odisha as well as beautiful beaches and lakes.

Chilka Lake
Chilka Lake is located about 55 km from Puri, which is the largest salt water lake. This place is surrounded by small islands. Chilika Lake is the center of attraction for the tourists coming here. During boating in the lake, tourists can see many types of birds. Various species of dolphins can also be seen here. Apart from this, the confluence of the sea and the lake is also seen during boating in Chilika Lake.

Puri Beach
Puri is situated on the seashore. Apart from the Jagannath Rath Yatra, you can go for a walk on Puri Beach in the evening. Puri Beach is famous as the Golden Beach located on the coast of the Bay of Bengal. During a morning walk, you can enjoy the spectacular view of sunrise and waves. At the same time, you can do activities like kayaking, surfing, jet skiing and boating here.

Raghuraj Artist Village


Near Puri is Raghurajpur Bhargavi River, on whose southern bank is a Hindu pilgrimage town. Here one can see the traditional decoration used under the throne of Lord Jagannath, which is called Patas. Raghuraj Village is also the birthplace of Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra.

Birla Mandir

Puri has a famous Devi temple. Popularly known as Birla Mandir, this temple is considered as a Shakti Peeth. The temple is built of sandstone and is located near a pond named Rohini Kund. A grand Durga Puja festival is organized here for 16 days.
