Hawa Mahal
On hearing the name of Rajasthan, the picture of Hawa Mahal is formed in the minds of the people. Hawa Mahal is an important part of the identity of Rajasthan. It is the most popular tourist destination of the Pink City, it means 'Palace of Winds'. It was built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh. It has more than 950 windows. This palace is made of red and pink sandstone and is built like a beehive.
Taj Mahal
The Taj Mahal located in the Agra district of Uttar Pradesh ranks first in the list of seven wonders of the world. It was built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal. Mumtaz Mahal's tomb is also here. The Taj Mahal is an excellent example of a mixture of Indian, Persian, and Islamic architectural styles. Its construction work began in 1632. Thousands of craftsmen, artisans, and stonemasons worked on it for 21 years and the Taj Mahal was completed in 1653. The tomb of Mumtaz Mahal located here is the main attraction of the Taj Mahal. This tomb made of white marble is based on a square foundation. It is under the arch-shaped dome and can be reached through a curved gate.
Gateway of India
The Gateway of India is a gate located in front of the Taj Hotel in Mumbai. Keeping in mind Hindu and Muslim architecture, the foundation stone of the Gateway of India was laid by the Governor of Mumbai on 31 March 1913. This monument was built for the arrival of King George V and Queen Mary. It was completed in 1924. The Gateway of India was opened by the Viceroy on 4 December 1924.
Red Fort
This fort was established during the mid-17th century. The fort was built by Ustad Ahmed, the construction of this fort started in 1639 and continued till 1648. However, additional work on the fort started in the mid-19th century. This huge fort is made of red stone which is one of the grandest palaces in the world. This fort is spread over an area of 2.41 kilometers, and the main gates of the two forts are Lahore Gate and Delhi Gate. Lahore Gate is near Chatta Chowk which was built for the royal families.
Mysore Palace
This palace is very crowded with tourists. In the evening, lights are lit in this palace which further enhances its beauty. This palace is also known as Amba Palace. Along with the palace, there is also a 44.2 meter high five-storey tower, whose dome is made of gold. It was built by the Wadiyar kings in the 14th century. It used to be the residence of the Wadiyar Maharajas. Mysore Palace is a wonderful amalgamation of Dravidian, Eastern, and Roman art.
Victoria Memorial
One of the most famous sightseeing places in Kolkata is the Victoria Memorial, which is a unique blend of European architecture and Mughal forms. The Victoria Memorial is a tribute to the British Raj in India, it is one of the most magnificent monuments of India. Spread over 64 acres, it is a domed structure made of white marble. It was opened to the general public in 1921, it also houses some photographs of the royal family. Apart from these priceless exhibits, tourists come here to see the beautiful structure of the Victoria Memorial.
Sanchi Stupa
Sanchi Stupa is a famous tourist destination located in Sanchi village of Madhya Pradesh, about 46 km from Bhopal city. There are three stupas here and it is one of the most preserved stupas in the country. The first Sanchi Stupa was built in the third century. Its height is about 16.4 meters and its diameter is 36.5 meters. The second stupa was built in the second century and is located on the edge of a hill over an artificial platform. The third Sanchi Stupa is located near the first Sanchi Stupa and has a crown over a semicircular dome which is considered a very sacred place. All three stupas of Sanchi are considered as World Heritage Sites and currently come under UNESCO.
Golden Temple
The Golden Temple is a central religious place of Sikhs. The Golden Temple is also a symbol of equality of all religions. Everyone, irrespective of caste, creed, or race, can come without any restriction. It is located in Amritsar. This temple is decorated with about 500 kg of gold. Thousands of devotees visit this temple almost every day. This temple was completely destroyed by Afghan invaders in the 19th century. After this, Maharaja Ranjit Singh rebuilt it and decorated it with gold plating. For this reason, it is called the Golden Temple.
