New Parliament built for Rs 1200 crores
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the new Parliament building in December 2020. The new Parliament was ready in less than three years. This triangular-shaped four-story building is spread over 64,500 square meters. The new Parliament building is approximately 17,000 square meters larger than the old Parliament. This building constructed with state-of-the-art technology will not be affected by earthquakes. The construction of the new Parliament building has cost Rs 1200 crore, which was earlier estimated at Rs 971 crore.
Due to these reasons, the cost of construction increased
The new Parliament building has been constructed by Tata Projects. The construction work of the building was started rapidly, but two years later in 2022, its cost increased further to Rs 200 crores. The reason for the increase in the budget was the increase in prices of steel and other goods, electronics, and other works. Expenses have increased due to things like modern audio-video visual systems, and tablets on the tables of MPs. According to media reports, the cost of construction of the Parliament building was expected to reach Rs 1200 crore after the increase of Rs 200 crore by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD). Work has started on the new Parliament building for Rs 1200 crore.
1280 members can sit in the new building
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated the new Parliament building in May this year. This building has a comfortable seating arrangement for 888 members in the Lok Sabha chamber and 300 members in the Rajya Sabha chamber. If there is a joint sitting of both houses, then there is a seating arrangement for a total of 1280 members in the Lok Sabha chamber.
Hi-tech office for officers and employees
Many arrangements have been made the security in the new Parliament building. Six entrances have been made in this building. Of these, three Ashwa, Gaja, and Garuda gates are ceremonial gates. These gates will be used by the Vice President, Speaker, and Prime Minister. Three other gates Makar Gate, Shardul Gate, and Hans Gate will be used for MPs and the public. The offices of officers and employees in the new Parliament building have also been made hi-tech. In these, hi-tech devices have been installed in different rooms of café, dining areas, and committee meetings. There is also a provision for common rooms, a ladies' lounge, and a VIP lounge.
Who designed the Parliament House?
HCP Design, Planning, and Management Private Limited, a Gujarat-based architecture firm, has designed the new Parliament House. The chief architect of this building is Bimal Patel, who has designed many big buildings. Bimal Patel has also received Padmashree in the year 2019 for his exceptional work in the field of architecture.
