The beauty of the tourist destination Leh in Ladakh cannot be described in words. Visiting Leh Ladakh can be a wonderful experience. The famous religious place of Hindus, Shri Parvat Shaktipeeth is situated in Leh Ladakh. This place dedicated to Goddess Durga is one of the 51 Shaktipeeths of Goddess Durga. It is believed that the anklet of the right foot of Goddess Sati had fallen on this Shaktipeeth. In Shri Parvat Shaktipeeth, Shakti is worshiped as Goddess Sundari and Bhairav is worshiped as Sundaranand.

Regarding Shri Parvat Shaktipeeth, it is believed that this ancient temple is about 800 years old. A huge statue of Goddess Kali is installed in the temple premises. This Shaktipeeth is one of the famous 51 Shaktipeeths of Maa Durga. The story of origin of all these Shakti Peethas is the same. According to religious texts, Lord Shiva's father-in-law Daksh had organized the Yagya, but he did not invite Lord Shiva and Mother Sati in the Yagya. Daksh did not consider Lord Shiva as his equal. When Mother Sati came to know about this, she went to the Yagya without being invited. There, saddened by the insult of Lord Shiva, Mother Sati jumped into the Havan Kund. When Lord Shiva came to know about this, he took out the body of Mother Sati from the Havan Kund and started performing Tandav. This created an uproar in the entire universe. To save the universe, Lord Vishnu divided the body of Mata Sati into 51 parts with his Sudarshan Chakra. It is said that wherever the organ fell, it became Shakti Peetha. It is believed that where Shri Parvat Shaktipeeth is situated, the anklet of the right foot of Mata Sati had fallen.

A large number of devotees come to Shri Parvat Shaktipeeth to have darshan of the Mother Goddess. All festivals are celebrated in the temple. Special pujas are organized here especially during the festivals of Durga Puja and Navratri. These days the decoration of the temple is worth seeing.
