Many people might have visited Vaishno Devi temple thousands of times, but they might not have been stopped or questioned about their dress code. Well, now such an experience may be possible. Yes, there are some dress code rules for Vaishno Devi devotees. Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has advised all devotees to wear plain clothes while visiting Vaishno Devi temple for puja, prayers, and darshan. The temple administration has issued a notification regarding the dress code and this dress code will be strictly enforced.
Dress Code:
The temple administration has said that every devotee coming to Vaishno Devi temple will have to wear decent clothes. Women are advised to wear sarees and will not be allowed to wear short clothes like Bermuda shorts, T-shirts, and night suits in the temple. Those wearing such clothes will not be allowed to participate in the darshan and aarti ceremonies. The dress code will be strictly enforced.
Although these dress code rules are quite old, the temple administration is now emphasizing their importance. They believe that these measures have been taken to maintain the sanctity and dignity of the temple. Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board administration is strict in following these guidelines. Awareness is being raised and announcements regarding dress code are being made at various places.

During Shardiya Navratri, which runs till October 24, 2023, some devotees observe fast for the entire nine days, while others observe the fast on the first and last day. Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has made special arrangements for those observing the entire Navratri fast. Free fasting food will be provided to the devotees on the Yatra route. This facility will be available at various places like the Tarakot site, Sanjhi Chhat, and Bhairav temple complex.
How to reach Vaishno Devi:
By Air: The nearest airport is Katra Airport in Jammu, located just 50 kilometers from Vaishno Devi Temple. Jammu is well connected to major airports in India, and it is easy to find a cab to Katra from Jammu airport.

By Bus: Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation buses run regularly from Jammu to Katra. Private deluxe buses and taxis are also available from Jammu to Katra.
By Train: The nearest railway station to Katra is Udhampur Railway Station. From the railway station, you can find taxi and cab services to reach Katra.
